About

A research organisation, not an advocacy one

Baseline Institute is a non-profit research organisation registered in The Gambia. We produce evidence that did not exist before, and we publish it in a form anyone can check.

01

How we work

We preregister

The protocol, the analysis plan and the interpretation thresholds are published before data is collected. Changing them afterwards is recorded in a public deviation log.

We publish either way

A finding of no discrepancy is published as fully as a finding of one. Null results are not filed away.

We show the working

Datasets, analysis code, bench specifications and exclusion logs are published with every report.

We state what we cannot know

Where we cannot explain something we observed, we say so in those words rather than offering a cause we cannot evidence.

02

What we do with findings

Where the evidence supports it, we say what it implies and what could be done. Recommendations are published with the findings they rest on, and never without them.

A recommendation is a reading of evidence, not a demand. It is stated conditionally, it names the evidence it depends on, and it is open to the same right of reply as the finding itself.

The order, always

Method
Findings
Recommendations
Right of reply

If the findings section is empty, the recommendations section does not exist.

What we will not do

Governance

NameRoleBody
[Name]Executive DirectorExecutive
[Name]Research LeadExecutive
[Name]ChairBoard
[Name]TreasurerBoard
[Name]MemberBoard
[Name]MemberAdvisory council

Team is published as names and roles. Headshots are not required to judge a method. The constitution is published in full and in plain language.

05

Funding

Funding is published annually by source and amount, including in-kind support. We accept no funding that restricts what we may publish or when.

Where a funder has an interest in a subject we study, that interest is declared on the report itself, not only here.

Annual statement

No funding received to date

The first annual funding statement is published at the end of the first financial year, whether or not there is anything in it.
